About Us

A Love of Maps

At Artistic Maps, we love maps and art. The two are not really distinct - mapping is an art form, despite the formal definition of maps as symbolic representations of objects in space and or time.
Most maps are static two-dimensional representations of three-dimensional space, while others are three-dimensional. While they are commonly used to depict geography, maps can represent any space, real or imagined.
Although the earliest known maps are of the heavens, geographic maps have a long tradition and date back to ancient times. The word "map" comes from the medieval Latin "Mappa mundi," wherein "mappa" meant a napkin or cloth and "mundi" meant the world. Thus, "map" became the shortened term referring to a two-dimensional representation of the Earth's surface.
Maps and art have long been intertwined. Most early maps were masterful pieces of art. Even great artists like Leonardo da Vinci dabbled in map-making. This should not be a surprise, since art shares many similarities with mapping. Art is about expressing the artist's imaginative or technical skill and representing 2D and 3D objects through space and time.
Artistic Maps was born out of the desire to bring the beauty and joy of mapping to everyone who loves art and appreciates the importance of maps in how we understand and co-exist with the world.

Our Philosophy

At Artistic Maps, we share a passionate commitment to blending art and mapping. We strive to revive the connection between these two fields by using advanced techniques to turn maps into captivating artworks. Our goal is to create pieces that not only showcase artistic beauty but also resonate on a personal and meaningful level. We believe in producing maps that reflect our deep appreciation for aesthetics and our quest for belonging and meaning.

Our Approach

We believe that art should not be confined to just brushes and paint. With technology, we can create not only technically precise maps but also transform them into artistic masterpieces. Our approach involves using digital technology to craft exceptional, personalized, and unique artworks, which are then rendered into traditional print forms for you to display on your walls as meaningful symbols or extensions of your interior design.

Additionally, we utilize locally manufactured artifacts from the UK to create complete pieces. By doing this, we support local small businesses and foster a connection between them and you through art.
